Boarding

Sometimes travel or other circumstances can temporarily separate us from our pets, and we’re unable to watch or take care of them personally. That’s when you want a reputable, dependable, compassionate boarding option. O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital offers a safe alternative to leaving your pet at home alone or in the hands of well-meaning friends or neighbors who might not have the time and resources to care for them properly.

O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital can provide your pet with meals, clean and appropriate-sized kennels, activities, and interaction – all to make your pet feel loved, safe, and cared for in your absence.

Additionally, boarding your pet at O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital assures immediate access to quality medical care should a health crisis arise.

There are a few guidelines in place to protect all of the pets in boarding care. Make sure that before boarding your pet, their immunizations are up-to-date. If not, please make an appointment with your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian for any necessary vaccines. The standard immunizations we require for canines are rabies, canine distemper virus, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza virus, canine parvovirus, leptospirosis, and bordetella (kennel cough). Cats must also be immunized against rabies, as well as feline rhinotracheitis virus, calicivirus, and panleukopenia virus. Other pets might need more specific vaccines as well – contact O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital for a complete list for other pets.

Your pet must also be free of fleas and ticks. Any animals with fleas or ticks will be treated for those parasites at the owner’s expense. Please remember your pet’s medications and any special dietary items. And of course, any special toys or comfort items like favorite blankets are welcome to help make your pet feel at home.

Companion Animal Medicine

As pet lovers, it’s hard to be away from our pets. It’s even more difficult for pet owners of Companion Animals. At O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital, we understand the special bond you have with your Companion Animal and how important it is that your pet gets well, up and about as quickly and safely as possible. When your pet is brought in for a check-up, or more involved or invasive treatment like surgery, the staff at O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital will be here to support you and your pet and help both of you get back to your daily activities and normal routine.

Dental Care

Yearly dental check-ups and preventative measures play an important role in good oral health. Regular check-ups and routine dental care are important in maintaining your pet’s health. Your pet’s oral health is often the first line of defense in diagnosing and preventing illness and other health problems. O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital offers an examination of teeth and gums, teeth cleaning, repair, extractions, and other basic services, as well as instruction on home dental cleaning and care. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian might also request digital radiography (x-rays).

O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital can also handle dental problems that arise in between check-ups. Contact O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital if you notice a broken or loose tooth. Changes in chewing, appetite or behavior, reluctance to eat or play with toys, audible chattering of teeth when chewing, bleeding gums, swelling around the mouth, drooling, and unusual breath odor and, specifically for cats, improper or cessation of grooming, could be symptoms of oral pain, an abscess, or other conditions that need to be addressed.

Dermatology

Your pet deals with complex dermatological issues. At O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital, we identify and treat allergic conditions and diseases that can affect your pet’s skin and ears. In addition to keeping your pet content and comfortable, early treatment is crucial for preventing conditions from worsening or even spreading to other pets.

If you notice unusual shedding, lesions, or if your pet is scratching or biting at its fur more often – or other similar changes in skin appearance or pet behavior – contact O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital for an appointment so our staff may evaluate your pet’s condition.

Digital Radiography

Digital radiography is a painless, non-evasive procedure, and the O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital staff are trained experts in making sure your pet is calm and comfortable.

Digital radiography is the latest technology, with faster, clearer results than standard radiography or x-rays, which means a quicker, more accurate diagnosis and treatment. No waiting for image development and processing, and digital images can be easily transferred and enhanced. Digital radiography also uses less radiation, which makes it safer than traditional photographic film x-rays.

Heartworm Testing

It is important to have your pet tested for heartworms. Heartworms are dangerous parasites that can cause permanent damage to your pet’s vital organs and even death. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian can determine the most effective treatment for your pet if heartworm infection is detected. There are many preventative treatment options available if there are no signs of infection, including oral, topical, and injectable medications to protect your pet to help them remain heartworm-free.

Heartworms can affect many species of animals but are particularly deadly in canines. A heartworm infection can cause lasting damage to a dog’s heart, lungs, and other organs. Annual testing and preventative treatment are recommended. A simple blood test can detect the presence of the parasite, after which further testing may be needed. Radiography and echocardiography may also be used to determine any damage to the heart or cardiovascular system if an infection is diagnosed. If it’s time for your pet’s routine heartworm testing, or you are unsure of your pet’s medical history, make an appointment today with your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian to have your pet tested soon.

Hospice/Euthanasia

Our pets provide us with unconditional love, and, in turn, we are their advocate when it comes to making decisions about their health and wellbeing. The most difficult of these decisions is determining if and when it is time to cease extraordinary measures and to end their suffering from a catastrophic injury, illness, or advanced age. O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital continues the same kind, compassionate care you’ve come to expect throughout all your pet’s life stages, seeing them through the last days or weeks of their life. O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital hospice services provide palliative care beyond what you can do at home, keeping them calm and comfortable, whether they are suffering from a terminal medical condition or natural end of life with or without intervention.

Should you have to make the difficult choice to proceed with euthanasia, the O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital staff will be with you and your pet every step of the way. There are several options for you to make the best choice for your pet and for you. If we are lucky enough to have a furry friend all its long, natural life, we will ultimately be faced with this possibility. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian will make sure you have all the information to make the right, compassionate choice as your pet’s entrusted caregiver.

In-Clinic Diagnostics

O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital has on-site services that allow for testing right here on the premises. This saves time and ensures that your veterinarian remains a part of the diagnosis and treatment of your pet’s condition. Services include digital radiography, blood work, and another lab testing.

Intensive Care

O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital has the facilities and trained, experienced staff, to treat your pet and stabilize them onsite in a serious health crisis. Intensive care may include invasive, constant monitoring, organ support, administering of drug therapies, and diagnostics. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital Veterinarian remains part of the entire treatment process by not having to move treatment of your pet to an outside medical facility.

Laser Therapy
O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital uses laser therapy as part of the treatment plan for many ailments. Laser therapy is a major advance in the medical and veterinary medicine field. Thousands of studies on the benefits of laser light therapy have been performed, and new ways to use laser light to treat a number of conditions and injuries are discovered regularly. It can increase the release of endorphins – the body’s natural painkiller – and aid in reducing inflammation. It has been proven to be especially successful in treating arthritis. The treatment is non-invasive, and although results may vary, pain relief may be immediate. Talk to your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian if you think laser therapy might benefit your pet.
Microchipping

More and more pet owners have been reunited with their missing pets because they had their pets microchipped. Microchipping is a proven safeguard to help identify your pet if they are lost or stolen. Tags and collars can tear, break, be easily physically removed, or otherwise fail. Sharing photos on social media sometimes works – and can also put your pet in danger of being claimed by strangers.

Microchipping is relatively painless, non-invasive, and inexpensive.

A tiny chip is inserted with a needle between the shoulder blades. The chip is encased in a non-toxic capsule; it is harmless and will feel like a normal injection if your pet feels any discomfort at all. Once injected, we will register your pet with the microchipping company, all you have to do is update the company if any change to your personal information occurs.

If your pet is found, the registered chip has a unique number that can be read with a special scanner. All your pet’s rescuer has to do is bring them to a participating veterinarian or animal shelter.

Nutritional Counseling

Proper nutrition is an important part of your pet’s overall health and keeps them active, healthy, and strong. If you have concerns that your pet is eating too much, not enough, or are considering adding supplements that might benefit your pet, talk to your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian. They can best assess any changes to your pet’s dietary needs. A healthy, balanced diet is key to your pet’s health and wellbeing.

Weight gain is only one issue; sometimes, pets may have special dietary needs like food allergies or conditions that can be aggravated or triggered by certain foods. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian can address these issues and help you make the right food and supplement choices for your pet.

Pain Management
Managing pain plays an important part in the healing process and maintaining quality of life for your pet. Your O’Neal Lane Pet Hospital veterinarian is keeping up with the many advances being made in this area of veterinary medicine.

Understanding pain management has moved to the forefront of veterinary medicine and education in recent years in efforts to promote healing and improve quality of life. From ingestible medications to I.V. therapy, there are several treatment options to help make your pet comfortable and get them on the road to recovery. Whether your pet suffers from a chronic painful condition or illness, or if the condition is temporary like an injury, or from a surgical procedure, adequately managing pain reduces their emotional stress, which in turn helps to promote healing. You are the best advocate for your pet. Working with your veterinarian you can help determine the best course of treatment for them.

Your pet can’t communicate to you in words if they are in pain. Sometimes you may have to trust your instincts; oother times you may be given more easily identifiable clues, like limping, wobbling, or whimpering. Also look for changes in your pet’s mood or behavior. For example, if your normally affectionate pet suddenly doesn’t want to be held, goes off into a corner or quiet space away from humans or other animals, or if you notice changes in the way they play or engage in activities they usually enjoy.
